Automatic Tray Return System at Poznań-Ławica Airport (POZ)

Project challenges

Security screening is one of the most operationally sensitive areas of an airport, where system availability, passenger flow and efficient working conditions for security personnel are critical.

The project required the implementation of six complete ATRS lines within the existing airport infrastructure, integrating multiple stages of the security screening process into a consistent operational environment.

Each line had to support the complete tray handling process, including tray intake and transport, separation and sorting, re-check procedures, manual inspection and automatic return.

As a brownfield implementation, the solution also had to be adapted to the operational and infrastructural conditions of an existing passenger terminal.

Non-standard solutions

Dimark delivered six complete ATRS lines, each designed as an integrated system supporting the full security screening process.

Each line consists of:

• EDSCB Standard C3
• tray intake module
• transport module
• separation module
• sorting module
• re-check line module
• manual inspection desk
• automatic tray return module
• rejected tray module
• system control module

The ATRS ensures continuous circulation of trays between the beginning and end of the screening line, reducing manual handling and supporting efficient passenger processing.

The integrated architecture also enables trays requiring additional inspection to be separated from the main flow and directed to dedicated re-check and manual inspection areas.

The scope of the project also included employee training, as-built documentation, technical specifications, and operation and maintenance manuals.

Up to 2 litres through security

Thanks to the combination of advanced EDSCB Standard C3 screening technology and the new security screening infrastructure, passengers can carry liquids in containers of up to 2 litres through security, without removing them from their carry-on baggage. Electronic devices can also remain inside the bag.

Final results

The implementation of six complete ATRS lines created an integrated and automated security screening environment at Poznań-Ławica Airport.

Automated tray circulation, sorting and dedicated re-check processes support efficient passenger flow while providing airport staff with a structured and reliable working environment.

Combined with advanced CT screening technology, the system contributes to a more convenient passenger journey. Travelers can keep liquids and electronic devices inside their carry-on baggage during security screening.

The project demonstrates Dimark's capabilities beyond traditional baggage handling systems, applying automation, system integration and engineering expertise to another critical area of airport operations: passenger security screening.
